• Fractures following simple incidents such as: trips and falls, coughing, or putting on shoes, are termed ‘fragility fractures’ (FF); millions occur worldwide annually;
• Approximately 2,000 deaths occur annually following a fragility fracture (similar to COVID-19);
• Osteoporosis related fractures result in a financial toll of €1Billion annually, which is projected to increase to €2Billion by 2030;
• <20% of those admitted with a fragility fracture to our hospitals are diagnosed

Although Ireland is projected to have the greatest increase in fracture numbers by 2034 (54%), osteoporosis is not a national priority and so does not get the attention it deserves commensurate with its impact on patients, our society and hospitals, and the economy
